If you are a member of the ABA VALUE PLAN or ADVANTAGE PLAN, you can increase your accidental death benefits coverage to a total of $50,000, $75,000 or $100,000.

LIMITS:
A Spouse is limited to $50,000 supplemental coverage. However, if the member and the spouse are both active Postal employees and ABA members, they can each obtain any of the three plans, provided they apply for separate deductions on DCO.

Any ABA member subscribing to this plan while an active Postal employee can continue this benefit when they retire, but are limited to $50,000, as long as they maintain their Value/Advantage ABA membership. Retirees who do not continue this plan directly from an active Postal employee status are not eligible.

What is ABA PLUS?
ABA PLUS is an accidental death benefit, available as a supplement to your present ABA benefit. It provides the maximum amount of benefits at the lowest cost. Members are encouraged to compare the rates with any other program.

You can subscribe to ABA PLUS if you are a member of ABA VALUE PLAN or ADVANTAGE PLAN.

You can apply for any one of three ABA PLUS plans:

•$50,000 Accidental death benefit at a cost of only 60 cents per pay period.
•$75,000 Accidental death benefit at a cost of only 85 cents per pay period.
•$100,000 Accidental death benefit at a cost of only $1.10 per pay period.

(Spouse's limited to $50,000 supplemental coverage. If the member and the spouse are both active Postal employees and ABA members, they can each obtain any of the three plans, provided they apply for separate deductions on DCO).

AS AN EXAMPLE OF THE ADDITIONAL COVERAGE YOU WILL RECEIVE:
If you are a member of the ABA VALUE PLAN and you elect to take the $50,000, $75,000 or $100,000 supplemental accidental death benefit, your coverage will be increased from the $6,000.00 accidental benefit (in the VALUE PLAN) to a total of $50,000, $75,000 or $100,000. The same increases apply to the ABA ADVANTAGE PLAN.

If you are a full time APWU officer and an active USPS employee on a leave of absence, you can apply for the ABA PLUS PLAN as a cash pay member provided you are a member of (or apply for) the ABA VALUE PLAN or ADVANTAGE PLAN.
